At Island Animal Hospital, we believe prevention is the foundation for good health. Our primary care services are tailored to your pet’s needs, and allow us to proactively manage their health and prevent common problems before they start. Regular wellness visits can also help us track trends over time and address new concerns in the early stages. As your primary care veterinarian, we’ll partner with you to care for your pet throughout their lifetime—as though they were our own.  Because We Put Pets First A pattern of five green heart shapes, reminiscent of a caring vet's touch, is evenly distributed across a plain black background. A ginger cat lies playfully on its back on a patterned carpet, paws up in the air, showing off for a vet visit later, with a couch blurred in the background.

Wellness Exams Pets are more likely to develop diseases as they age, but it’s easy to miss subtle changes. Annual wellness exams, which include a thorough physical assessment, allow us to check your pet from head to tail to detect disease signs they may be hiding. We also recommend annual blood work and disease screening to monitor your pet’s internal health. The sooner we diagnose any issues in your pet, the better their treatment outcome. Common findings on wellness exams include:
  • Dental disease
  • Heart murmurs
  • Arthritis
  • Lumps and bumps
  • Weight changes
If our team detects an abnormality during your pet’s wellness exam, we will work together to create a diagnostic and treatment plan that will provide the best possible outcome.

Vaccinations

Completing a vaccination series when pets are young, and keeping up with boosters as adults, is the best way to prevent life-threatening infectious diseases in your pet. One-size-fits-all vaccinations are a thing of the past—at Island Animal Hospital we’ll recommend only those vaccines your pet needs based on their species, age, and lifestyle.

Parasite Prevention

Pets are susceptible to a variety of internal and external parasites, including fleas, ticks, heartworms, and intestinal worms. These pesky critters have creative ways to find a host, and no pet is safe from their wrath. Parasites can be transmitted from mother to offspring, through contaminated water or soil, or through vectors like mosquitoes, and they can also spread secondary diseases to pets and humans. We offer comprehensive parasite testing and a wide range of preventive products to protect your pet and your household.
